Black Rapid RS-Sport 2 "Slim" Sling Camera Strap with BRAD, ConnectR-2 & FastenR-3 (Electronics) I needed a sling strap for my camera to use on hiking trips. I don't use the neck strap at all and prefer to use a small camera bag that fits just my camera that I can grab anytime I need to take a shot with a backpack or bag of gear in tow. For me this method is perfect for me. However, as much I prefer this it's not ideal on hiking trips or any other activity that could potentially swing your camera around, bang into things.....etc And the bag strap, even though slung over my torso, still winds up on my neck from all the climbing, ducking...etc etc and get's very hot or uncomfortable after 4-5hrs. And the bag still swings around and sometimes I need to use both hands.
I chose Black Rapid because of the reviews. Honestly, I saw a lot of others that looked comparable, but I think it's just a leading competitor in general and didn't want to go the whole 'Try this, try that till I find something that works' route.
I really wanted to get the women's strap because I think it would have been more comfortable than anything else offered. However, I also wanted to invest in the extra stability of the Brad Strap which the women's strap doesn't come with nor is compatible. Which I cant figure out why? So for me the next best thing is the Slim Sport. I love it.
- It's comfortable. When adjusted for correct fit this sucker just feels good. Not in the way, not cumbersome at all. It did take some getting used to having my camera lay open against my hip.
- Shoulder pad is comfortable. Doesn't dig at all.
- Easy to adjust and slips right on.
- Not really any heavier than any other strap if stashed in the gear bag.
- Front clip to lock your camera in place slides easily. It's the only thing on the front side of the strap so I can easily without looking or thinking about it locate the clasp, open it, slide it down and re-clasp to lock my camera down.
- Can be worn under my backpack no problem. This was a must.
- Durable nylon straps.
- Heavy duty plastic buckles.
- The piece that connects to the camera is heavy duty metal. This sucker isn't going break.
- Screw connector for camera is heavy duty. No problems with coming loose. There were a lot of reviews with complaints of this coming loose and dropping their camera. I was hesitant to purchase because of this. But all the other products had the same complaint...so.... anyway, because it was such a concern I made a conscience effort to check it often to make sure it was still tight. I also made sure I screwed it in tight to begin with. Once I tightened as much as I could with my hand, I used the clip to tighten further. I grasped the clip to turn the screw ...the leverage really helped. I was so nervous but it didn't budge during an 8hr rigorous hiking trip. Will still keep my eye on it though.
The only issues I had is I wish the padded portion of the shoulder strap had air vents. It was hot during my hikes and lack of air vents may not be the sole reason I was overheating....but air vents would have helped. My shoulder would have felt better.
Extra loose straps. I purchased a strap that can fit a man that allows a camera to hang at hip length....I'm 5'2...that's a lot of extra strap. There are clips to hold the bundled strap but weren't snug enough and they kept coming out and I had to stop and redo. This was bothersome. I don't want to cut the straps so I'll probably rig it with something to keep them in place.
I am not going to say I came out of the hiking trip sore-free. My camera is heavy plus I had the backpack so understandably my shoulder was aching after 8-9hrs but not nearly as bad had it been with a neck strap or my small bag. And even then I didn't start to get sore until near the end.
Overall, Love this thing and would most definitely recommend to a friend.
