Street Fighter Tekken Online Game

Street Fighter X Tekken [Online Game Code] (Software Download) REVIEW UPDATED ON 8/19/2013. IMPORANT INFORMATION BELOW.

Pass on Street Fighter X Tekken's PC port if you're looking to play it online. The game itself is pretty fun, but the networking code is the worst thing ever put into a modern game, bar none. It's even worse than The King of Fighters XIII and Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition. In theory, it's similar to the much-loved GGPO library in that you and your partner are both playing the game in real time with a static input delay. If your games de-synchronize due to a latency spike, the game will revert to the last synchronized frame. Sounds great, right? Problem is, the experience is anything but smooth in practice. It was designed for consoles, where the hardware is static and doesn't vary from unit to unit. On PC, even the slightest frame drop stemming from different hardware will cause the game to constantly roll back, making it impossible to effectively attack or defend against your opponent. Because of this, endless battle lobbies are nonexistent, and you'll find yourself fighting the same people over and over again in ranked play.

If you still insist on trying it out for yourself, then here's a helpful tip to try and smooth out the diarrheal rapids that are this game's online experience:

The hardware problem is exacerbated by the unfathomably stupid decision to set the default frame rate setting to "variable" with no way to change it in-game. You can attempt to fix this by going into your My Documents folder. Open the CAPCOM folder, then its SFTK subfolder. Open the config.INI file with a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++, then scroll to "FrameRate=VARIABLE" and change it to "FrameRate=FIXED", then save it. This will lock your game at 60 FPS and hopefully minimize any hardware-related de-synchronizations.

UPDATE: Street Fighter X Tekken uses the Games for Windows Live service to facilitate its online multiplayer, which will be shutting down on July 1st, 2014. Its fate is currently unclear. Do NOT buy this product until Capcom has issued an official statement!
