This coaster is primarly made of from the smaller connect pieces. My seven year old was able to mostly assemble this himself. He needed help with the mechanical parts (chain adjustment, getting the supports for the track in just the right place). He enjoyed the process and was proud of the results. We ran it a few times and, as others have demonstrated, it mostly works well with some adjustment from time to time.

The downside is it is really just one configuration. It isn't obvious that you can change the track around, but we will try when we get the chance. It would be nice if they showed a few configurations and suggestions. With just the one configuration, it isn't something that captivates for a long time. As it is, my son has taken it apart and integrated it with other K'Nex sets.

You can use the track easily in other ways, for example if you want to make the car go downhill and then move it back up by hand. It is just a bit challenging if you want the motor and chain to return the car to the starting point.

My son is familiar with this type of thing and other young kids who aren't into building toys might find it a bit hard to put together, especially the track. The orientation of some of the connectors is sometimes hard to see in the small pictures and they directions aren't step-by-step as they are with LEGO. The track is subassembled in one orientation and then installed on the coaster in another, which wasn't easy.

I'd only recommend this for kids who already know the K'NEX system or who otherwise are clearly into such building toys. This isn't a great first set.
